Hi, I’m Melinda 👋
I’m the founder of Literacy Moves, and for the past 20 years, I’ve been helping students unlock the power of learning - whether they’re struggling to read or ready to stretch their thinking.
I started out as an English teacher, working in schools across three states. I loved teaching, but I often found myself unsure of how to really help when students couldn’t decode, spell, comprehend or write clearly. I knew I needed to learn more.
So, I returned to study at the University of Melbourne, specialising in Learning Intervention. That’s where everything changed. I discovered what the research actually says about how we learn to read, what works for neurodivergent learners, and how evidence-informed practice can transform outcomes for all students across subject areas.
Since then, I’ve led student support teams as Head of Learning Diversity at Camberwell Girls’ Grammar and now work as the Educational Coordinator at the Learning Difficulties Clinic at the Royal Children’s Hospital. I also consult privately and run structured, engaging literacy sessions for children through Literacy Moves.
I believe every child deserves clear, compassionate support—and every family deserves to feel confident advocating for their child. Whether you’re navigating the school system, seeking the right intervention, or just want to better understand your child’s learning needs, I’m here to help you take the next right step.
Because when learning lifts off, confidence does too 🚀
